The ability to search for a tattoo artist, whether it be your first tattoo or your newest tattoo to your collection is crucial. Knowing what to look for and how to approach what you’re looking for can help your decision. Here are some tips to get you started.
Number 1. Social media: the most crucial accessibility during your research couldn’t be any more easier now. Look at the work from now all the way to three or even four years back. Check out the artist portfolio and the work through their social media or their own/shop website. Check out the pages of the shop that they work at and the work that is offered there.
Number 2. Call The Shop: Ask for a consultation with the artist that you wanna work with. Some shops recommend you message the artist directly, which is also OK if you prefer just to talk to them directly. It might take a little time to respond sometimes specially if it’s during the day and they’re working. Being patient with this step is needed, as tattoo artist aren’t checking their message every min of everyday.
Number 3. Go visit The Shop: See what the vibes are like there, seeing if you feel comfortable, and how well you are treated when you walk in the door. Keep in mind that there are some shop establishments that may not have a counter person up front, so it may take a second for an artist to get to you. You want to feel like it’s a Great hangout spot that feel like you’ve known the people at the shop forever, specially if it is your first time there. The Shop presents is also key in making a decision to essentially want to come back too!
And Number 4. It’s ok to ask question: You maybe a curious, you maybe nervous, or even excited about your tattoo, and may have some questions on the process of your session with your artist. there’s nothing wrong with asking a few question along the way! Most artist are more then happy to answer them for you, knowing it can make things at ease for you. Just make sure you ask the right ones. Though tattoo artist may seem a bit intimidating, we are just people and the majority of the time are pretty humble!
